Full Moon

Yesterday I had planned on trying to get pictures of the moon rise over the ocean. The moon rise was at 7:56 pm.  At 7:00 it was completely cloudy out and I decided against my plan of heading to the beach.

I kept peeking out my window until about 8:10 pm and suddenly there it was! A huge full moon. Darn it.  I wish I had gone down to the beach, but I  got a few shots from my backyard anyway.  Then I had a little fun in Photoshop.

Does That Blue Moon Ever Shine on You?

On Thursday my mother sent me an email about there being a blue moon on Friday August 31st.
I jumped on the internet to check the moon rise time, but I could only find Thursday's moon rise at 6:30 ish.

If you need to have a little background music for this post provided by Toby Keith click -  here
(isn't his hair rocking in that video) okay back to the post

I was cleaning up dinner tonight and I thought about the blue moon and mid clean up I jumped on the computer to find out the moon rise time.  It said 7:13 pm. I looked at the clock it was 7:05 pm.  Freddy had taken the boys out into the yard to play and I stepped out on the deck and told him I was going to head to the beach to try to get a picture of the moon.

We only live a few miles from the beach, but during the summer it takes longer to get there. I was stuck driving behind someone that certainly didn't know I was in a rush to see the moon rise. He just kept letting people merge into our lane. Ugg.

I finally got to the beach and sat and waited. It seemed too hazy for a moon rise :(
But then the moon appeared.

I always thought of a blue moon as a weird phenomenon when crazy things happen.

In the picture above there were not crazy ghosts, but instead sea gulls flying by when I had a long exposure. So they became blurred.  Also the waves didn't turn into a fur, again another long exposure.

Many people walked past the water as I was taking pictures, but none of them appear in the pictures.
Very strange.

In case you were wondering I am now an expert in blue moons. Hee hee hee.
Okay since I had a camera on a tripod lots of people stopped to ask me questions about the moon. They were very disappointed that it wasn't blue.  I told them a blue moon refers to the second full moon in one month.  I also told several people that I have a pet named Blue Moon and I would not have another chance to take a picture of a blue moon until 2015 when the next blue moon is scheduled to occur.

I didn't tell them I have an alpaca named Blue Moon because that opens another can of worms and really I just wanted to take some pictures of the moon :)

I did a little photo shop on this pic to make it a real blue moon.

I hope you had a safe night and enjoyed the blue moon.

Sunday Best!!! The Moon

This is my first time participating with a Rural Journal's Sunday Best.

I am not sure why I haven't done this before because I love looking at every one's Sunday Best each week.  It's about time I join the party.

So Friday night we were hanging out in the backyard in our pool with our friends and one of the kids pointed out the moon.  I knew at that moment I had to try to photograph it.

I took pictures of the moon once before and I was amazed at my results.  This time I took a little more caution with my settings since I discovered last time I could capture so many details on the moon.

So I grabbed my camera and tripod and got set up.  I set my camera to Manual and adjusted my metering mode to "center-weighted metering".  (aka the setting [  ])  I'm no pro so that might be the wrong setting, but of all my shots it seems to show the most detail.

My alarm clock is set for 4:00 am. Hope for good weather we are off to watch 125 hot air balloons launch!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

I am posting my Scavenger Hunt pictures a little early this week because I have big plans this weekend and I have all my shots.  I got all my shots for last week and never posted them... sigh.  So this week I didn't want to miss out.

Okay here goes....

Sunset
This is a river down the street from our house.  This sunset was amazing.  I was so excited to capture some pictures of it. Since we live on the east coast it is usually hard to get any good sunset pictures, but this day it worked out just perfect.  You can see my other sunset pictures here.

Sweet
This weekend we are having a huge hillbilly redneck style backyard BBQ.  Our friend came over in his "Sweet" new truck to drop off corn hole boards, kegerator, and box for roasting a pig.  Oh yeah did I mention hillbilly style party?!

 Hanging Around
On Thursday while Tiny was at Summer Camp Brady and I went over to my parents farm for a quick visit.  Brady had his etchasketch out in the field and the little baby alpacas were just hanging around checking out Brady's drawings.  You can see other pictures from this day here.

Funny Face
I had a lot to pick from for Funny Face, but this one made me laugh the hardest. Brady was standing next to me telling Tiny to smile nice.  I was trying to explain to Brady that I told Shea to make a funny face.  Brady insisted he made a nice face.  Tiny was so confused and this was his impression of a nice funny face.

Space
Does Outer "Space" count?  I took this picture of the moon around eight at night.  I am no pro photographer.  I hardly know what Fstops to use, exposures, ect, ect.  I rely on a lot of luck and constantly changing settings until it looks right. I like to check my histograms, but really I am terrible and knowing all the technical stuff.  So I was stunned when I got this shot!  My lens is for a 35mm camera and I bought it used.  Apparently it is an oldie but a goodie.

Have a great weekend!

well it will be on Sunday

Moon Dog

This is another shot of the moon that I took last night.  I couldn't help but notice it looks like the man on the moon has been replaced by a dog wearing sunglasses.

Full Moonrise over the Atlantic Ocean

The moon rose last night at 6:40.  I knew it was going to be a full moon and I was hoping to get a picture of it.  We only live a mile from the beach, so I packed the kids up in the car and Freddy came too and we headed down to the beach. It was extremely windy last night and appeared to be completely over cast.  I thought we weren't going to see the moon rise.  I had given up hope and was heading for home when my husband pointed out the passenger window "there it is."  So quickly I parked the car and jumped out and took a few pictures. I was in a huge rush because I had to get home because Freddy has somewhere he had to go and my brother-in-law was waiting at my house to measure a toy box he had made for us. So I only got to take a few rushed photos.  But it was well worth seeing this huge moon. It was bright orange and very magnificent.  By the time we got home and I looked out the window it appeared much smaller and whiter.

Have a great day,
Andee
