This morning we had a huge thunderstorm. I heard on the news that there were over 2,200 lighting strikes. We tried counting the time between thunder and lightning, but there was a constant roll of thunder and endless flashes of lightning. It was a pretty cool storm. Then later in the day we got a second storm. The second one had only a few claps of thunder, but buckets of rain. It passed quickly and I decided to run to the store for a few items. But before I left I looked up the time for the sunset. "Sunset" is one of the items to photograph for this weeks scavenger hunt. Sunset was at 8:29 so I packed up the boys and my camera and we were off.
Sunsets are hard to photograph on the east coast. But I thought since there were lots of clouds left in the sky from the late afternoon storm it might make for a good sunset at a river down the street from us. We finished up our shopping and got to the river at 8:00. This was such a huge treat for the boys because typically they would be in bed at this time. When we arrived it was just us and one other vehicle.
Then we spotted three wave runners out in the water.
I thought I could get a quick picture of the boys in their cute rain boots, but they only gave me silly faces.

Oh the sky was amazing. It kept changing and I kept changing setting, lens, filters oh my.
Then this amazing cloud appeared. It was right in front of us. The boys were tossing rocks into the water and I was pretty sure if Freddy was with us he would have been able to throw a rock and hit it. It was so bizarre and in my disbelief I turned around and saw the park was now filled with at least 30 cars and close to 40 people standing with cell phones taking pictures. They had pulled over and people that lived within walking distance were all standing river side snapping pictures.
I was worried at one point that it was going to turn into a water spout. But it was so amazing I couldn't bring myself to get away from the water. It just floated by looking like a tree.
And then it was gone.
I hope I didn't bore you with all these pictures. It was truly a very cool day of weather and getting to watch this sunset was very magical. I think I have another 150 shots to look through, these were just a few of my favorites.
