Sing Me a Song

Yesterday I had the privilege of photographing a herd of alpacas at a friends farm. I only took 600 pictures :) The pictures I took will be for marketing purposes. Most of the alpacas I photographed are for sale or they have breedings for sale.  During the day this little bird was singing cheerfully. I am always amazed at how such small little critters can pack the most beautiful little songs. No this little guy didn't go unnoticed by me and he deserved a picture too.

Those Pesky Hawks

I have mentioned before that I see a lot of hawks.  There always seems to be a red tail hawk in my yard and since they like to kill my yard birds I usually don't take their picture. Today this guy was perched on the tree next to my deck (remind you I only have a 200mm zoom, so he is close).   I decided to grab my camera when I saw that I wasn't the only one upset by his presence.

A Taste of Africa...



... in Florida at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.

On March 7th we had dinner reservations at Boma, which is located at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. My parents got there before us and my father had my camera with him. He snapped a few pictures before we got there. I gave him credit by putting his name on those pictures.

The moment we arrived at the Lodge I fell in love with it. It is such a calm and peaceful place. Compared to the crowded parks this was like stepping into another world. A world where the animals roamed freely all over the property, a world where bongo lessons were given to children and parents by people from Africa. Most of the people that work there are from Africa so hearing their accents just added to the magic of this place.

 

 

 

 

 

On the property there are lots of different place to see the animals.  No big cages, no plastic walls, just wonderful outlook areas.

 

 

 

In the picture below you can see balconies.  If you are a guest staying at the Lodge you get to sit outside your hotel room and watch the animals grazing.

The railings are just high enough so kids like Tiny don't jump into the animals' grazing land, but low enough that adults can view the animals unobstructed.

We had an amazing meal. Boma is a wonderful buffet. It was all African food and I didn't know what anything was, but we all loved our dinner and probably all ate too much.  But it was so good.

 

 

 

 

After dinner we found a cozy spot outside by the campfire.

 

 

Sitting around the camper fire is one of our favorite things too do.  Especially since it was so cold in Florida when we went it was nice to warm up by the fire and it was so relaxing.

 

 

"Igbo" wouldn't that be a fun name for an alpaca?

 

If you are planning a trip to Disney World I would highly recommend eating at Boma and visiting Animal Kingdom Lodge.  The restaurant is great for kids. I wouldn't stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge with young kids though. It is so nice and peaceful there and trying to keep my boys quiet would have been too exhausting.  But is a great place to unwind and relax.

Feeling Better

I have had a rotten cold! The type of cold that you can't swallow without feeling like you are ripping your throat apart. Endless boxes of tissues, headaches and coughing.  Ugg.  The boys have been feeling fine just runny noses so their energy levels have been at max.  So they have been running circles around me all week.  I haven't been able to keep up. But I am finally feeling better!

 

Yesterday we got snow!  That was a nice excuse to not have to leave the house or do anything productive except knit.

 

I joined a mystery knit along.  We get one clue on Fridays for 5 weeks.  I finished up clue 1 in one night so now I have to wait until next Friday for the next clue.  You'll have to wait until it is finished for the final reveal, but this is the yarn I am using. I gorgeous hand painted merino / nylon sock yarn and pink alpaca yarn.

 

I made a Yarnster hat out of Madelintosh Vintage yarn. I love how it turned out and I've been wearing it around the house.  I did get out of the house once this week to go grocery shopping and I got lots of compliments on it! That made me feel like a million bucks even though I was suffering from an awful cold.  I'm hoping Freddy can get some pictures of me wearing it.

I picked up this gorgeous Nuna yarn it is merino/silk/bamboo and oh so soft.  I am knitting a Juneberry Triangle Shawl. I love that it has swiggles in the pattern. How fun is that!

 



 

In bird news- my feeders have been full of visitors. I even have some new house guests in my bird houses!  I have had a lone mourning dove hanging out at the feeder everyday. I was excited to see that now there are two.

 

 

In computer news- I HAVE A NEW COMPUTER!  Are you jumping up and down in excitement like I am. I also have a whole new desk top. It is huge and wonderful and I have managed to cover it with tons of crap already. Well I like to think I am moving into it.  I am so excited about my new computer system I can't stand it and my monitor is huge and beautiful.  It has taken me quite a bit of time installing my programs and getting it set up just the way I want, but I'm just about moved into it.  Just a few more email setting and printer to install and I'm home free.  Oh I also have to upload some pictures so I can finish sharing our trip to Disney.

 

 

We don't have pots of gold, but we do have a bucket of snow today.
