Camping at North Pole

In June we stayed at North Pole Resorts in Wilmington, NY. The campground is broken into two sections called the Resort Section and the 100 Acre Wood Section. We stayed in the Resort section. It was wonderful! We have wonderful mountain views from one side of the campers and a view of the river from the other side of the camper.

Rocky really loved it too.

The kids also loved it.

Although I love getting to a campground and not leaving this trip was planned a lot around sight seeing. The entire four days we were there I felt like I was living in a post card. It was so pretty!

Driving around it seemed like the roads just dropped off!

On the day we were heading to this campground I got a text message from my mom. She said they decided to name the newest alpaca Ziggy Zaggy as in Ziggy Zaggy Ziggy Zaggy Oi Oi Oi. It just so happens that about every mile there is a ziggy zaggy sign. So I may have chanted that a few hundred times during the trip.  I couldn't get it out of my head!

Once I got home to look up where that saying came from I found this.

"It is from a German drinking song when people want to get drunk.
"Ein Prosit "
With Beer stein or glass in hand

A Salute to Your Health or Well-being!

Ein Prosit, Ein Prosit, der gemiitlichkeit
Ein Prosit, Ein Prosit, der gemiitlichkeit
(Cheer!) Eins, zwei, Drei g'suffa!
Zicke, zacke, zicke, zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi,
Zicke, zacke, zicke, zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi,
Prosit

So now I guess I'll also say it when I'm drinking.

One of my favorite parts of the area we were staying at is it seemed like we were always driving next to a beautiful winding river. It was sooo pretty!!!

Just a real quick bike ride from the campground was a beautiful public beach / park.

A great place to take the dogs for a walk / run.

Nothing around this area ever seemed to be crowded. The kids had a great time playing with some of the local kids from the area at the playground and swimming in the river. We had a good time talking to the locals and finding out about good hiking and swimming holes.

Even the lampposts are pretty!

We learned the weather is very unpredictable. We found the forecast would call for storms, but they didn't always make it over the mountain. So if you go to this area don't plan your day around the weather. It changes every five minutes.

Overall we had an amazing time at North Pole Resorts. The campground was very well maintained, the staff / owners were so friendly and helpful and the views were spectacular. I still have more to post about our trip here, but I need to go pack for our next trip!

High Falls Gorge

Last month when we were camping in Wilmington, NY we visited High Falls Gorge. Once again I wish I could include the sounds of the rushing waterfalls to go along with these pictures!
We had a great time exploring these falls. I really enjoyed the well marked path and all the information we learned during our quick time there.  We discovered while being in this area of NY that you can basically pull over just about anywhere marked with a "P" (parking sign) and wander onto the trails for some amazing views and some fun exploring. But like I said there is something very nice about guided paths and not having to worry about getting lost and knowing your way back to your truck!  Also you run into other people that offer to take a family picture :)

The path even includes some glass bottom parts so you can stand over the water and look down!

If seemed like everything we saw in this area was MILLIONS of years old. The boys could visualize dinosaurs everywhere. They even pointed out where they thought the flying dinosaurs would have had their nests.

There was a quiz the kids took by reading the different information tablets around the gorge. At the end they handed in their quizzes and got a prize.  Nothing like learning things first hand.

Dinner with a View

Last month we took a camping trip up to Wilmington, New York. We had such an amazing time. I have so many pictures to share from our trip. We haven't been to Wilmington before and it is close to Lake Placid. After driving through a mountain with camper in tow we arrived at our campground. We asked the staff at the campground for a recommendation for a place to eat for dinner. They suggested R.F. McDougall's Pub which was just a few miles down the road.

Going back this was the second campground we stayed at in one trip. We visited the southern Adirondacks and then we headed up to the northern Adirondacks. The night before we got there our camper lost power. We had a problem with the electrical and though we questioned packing it up and heading home and canceling the second part of the trip....we had a wonderful repair man come to our site and got us all fix up.  So low and behold when we showed up here for dinner I can't even begin to express how happy we were that we didn't go home.

This was really a dinner with a view.

It felt like we were living in a postcard the entire time we were there. I wish I could add a sound effect in the background of this post so you can hear the rushing water from the waterfalls.

After dinner we took a walk and played on the rocks.

Climbing on rocks, taking adventures and appreciating what we have. We don't always know what is around the corner, but hopefully there are a lot more days like this in store for us.
