Ready?

We have been spending the weekend getting ready for hurricane Sandy.  Sandy is coming right at us. We are expecting 80 to 100 mph winds.  There are a lot of evacuations in our town, but luckily we are not in an evacuation area.  We live about half a mile from where they are evacuation however.  Our concerns are mostly with the wind and power outages.  Last year at this time we lost power for about a week.  It was awful not having power.  This time around hopefully we are prepared for the power outage.

I have lots of yarn, ball winder, swift, patterns, roving, and spinning wheel. So knitting and spinning shouldn't be an issue.  We have jugs and jugs of water. We have lots of bread, peanut butter, cereal and other good food. I also picked up some instant coffee. Our cars are filled with gas. Anything not nailed down outside has been packed away.  We have bags packed with extra clothes so if he have to run for it we are ready.  Flashlights are in a neat pile with batteries.  All the boys electronic toys are charged fully.  My camera battery is charged fully.  Our radios have batteries. We moved our furniture away from the windows so we'll have comfy places to hang out.  Laundry has been done! I have washed everything in the house. Last time we started running out of clothes since we couldn't do laundry. Not this time.  We have tons of ice and extension cords to hook up into neighbors generators.

We have firewood so if it gets cold we can have a fire to warm the house up.  I have cooked several meals and put them in disposable trays.  This way we can just heat them up on the grill, or if we decide to pack it up and head to someone else's house we can show up with food.

They are saying this is a 100 year storm.  We aren't in a flood zone, but with 35 foot waves heading our way I hate to think about the destruction that is going to happen to our beaches.

I hope everyone stays safe and I'll be back for updates.
