At the Bird Feeder- Take 3

Look at who was at my bird feeders!!! Not after the seed, but after the rabbit at the feeder.

It pooped at me!

OMG! Seriously this just happened.  I picked up my son from school and as a reward for being such a good boy (and because we had just gotten gift certificates) we went out for frozen yogurt at OMG! yogurt.  We pulled up to the house and I gasped at who I saw at my bird feeders.  Both of these birds could care less that I was walking up on them to get their pictures.  I left the kids in the car and slowly creeped my way up to them.  The big turkey voulture (is that what it is please help WBW).  Took off, but not the other one.  I got closer and it flew up to the basketball hoop.

It accidentally dropped the rabbit it had in its talons and stayed perched up on the basketball hoop. The volture flew up to the chimney (both at my neighbors house).  OMG! my heart was beating so fast the closer I got.  I know I could have gotten even closer, but I didn't want to get too close to the rabbit.

The volture took off flying in slow circles and then like a bat out of hell dive bombed about 10 feet from my head at a speed that seemed like a million miles an hour.  I had no clue they could be so fast.  Then it soared back up.  Oh was my heart pumping.

So please help me I feel like such a fool, for not knowing exactly these birds are please please help me!  I am guessing it is a juvenile Red Tailed Hawk, but I am not sure.

BTW- How excited am I that I have a link to share my pictures with and people that I think will be as excited as I am!

I am also shareing with This or That Thursday

Thanks Debbie! I wish I had your lens to get some pictures of these guys! They were not what I was expecting at my feeders.

What a great thing to happen right in front of you but I think I'd be a bit scared to have a bird as big as that one so close to me.

That is so stink in' cool! My kids and I have been keeping track of a red tailed hawk on its nest near Cornell via webcam. Its eggs just hatched. This is so much cooler to see in real life!

Fantastic shots! Pretty amazing that they were both at your feeder. I've been wanting to get a picture of a vulture, but so far no luck.
