Look Outside!

Right now I am working on two knitting project that have a knitted edge. If you aren't familiar with knitting... knitted on edges are very pretty, but seem to take forever.  I am working on a Mysterious Shawl and I got my final clue on Friday and realized it was a knitted on edge.  I was hoping to take a break from my other shawl that has a knitted on edge.  Now it is a race to see what one gets done first.  I think the pink one will since I am making it with a Knit-a-long.  The other one, the grayish one, I am making with the yarn from my parents alpaca Spicy.  I just love her rose gray color.  But I am taking much needed breaks from both of them and getting some spinning done.

I am busy Spring Purging over here. I'd say cleaning, but I am tossing everything!  Hopefully my house will have less clutter and won't look like a tornado when through it.

As kids every summer we went to Maine for a week in August before school started.  We stayed in the same cabin each year on a lake. I loved our trips to Maine and I hope to take my boys up there one day.  In the picture above is my grandparents, mom, sisters and me having ice cream at the Weld Inn in Maine.  It was one of our favorite spots.

Each year we would hope to see the Northern Lights when we were in Maine and we never did.  My grandparents always stayed for an extra week after us and it always seemed they would get to see the Northern Lights just after we left.

So the word on the street is that here in good old NJ we have a chance of seeing the Norther Lights tonight!!!!!

Households throughout the Garden State could be abuzz with excited shouts this evening like, "Hurry up, get outside -- you gotta see this!"

No, it will not be Orson Welles' "The War of the Worlds" becoming a reality, so there is no need to panic.

It is because an awe-inspiring show of northern lights is possible tonight, courtesy of a solar flare that occurred early Thursday morning, according to a report on AccuWeather.com.

"Solar flares create auroras when radiation from the sun reaches Earth and interacts with charged protons in our atmosphere. The effects are greater at the magnetic poles and weaken as they move south from the Arctic or north of the Antarctic. In the northern hemisphere the results are called the aurora borealis, with the aurora australis being its southern counterpart. The result is a spectacular display of light and color for areas with clear enough views," the report states.

The northern lights are expected to arrive at approximately 8 p.m., lasting for up to seven hours.

And the best part: it's free Saturday night entertainment.

However, there is a chance that we will miss the event if the radiation hits too long after dark, according to the report.
