Knitting for Charity

I missed our last knitting night, but at the gathering everyone decided to knit something for charity this Christmas instead of for each other as gifts. I already had an item for charity on my needles so I was way ahead of the game!  The above Alpaca Springtime Bandit I knitted with yarn donated by My Poppy's Alpacas.  It is a 2 ply DK weight 75% alpaca 25% merino.  I used two 200 yard skeins.  This is a fantastic knit for 400 yards.  It is not a very difficult knit and I'm sure I'll knit it a dozen more times for gifts.  It is a free Ravelry pattern which is also nice.

So I will be donating the above knit to the New Jersey Alpaca Classic Auction.  The show is November 3rd & 4th. So if you are in the Logan, New Jersey area swing by and meet some alpacas!
The money made from this shawl will go towards the Popcorn Zoo.

~Established in 1977, Popcorn Park Zoo is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.
The Society is a not for profit, 501 (c) 3 organization, and Popcorn Park is also a federally licensed zoo. The Society prides itself on our devotion to the thousands of animals that we care for annually and the chance for a better life we offer them. ~

Here are some pictures of our last trip to the Popcorn Zoo in April 2012.

In other news. I am knitting the boys some hooded pullovers.  This one is Brady's. I am doing the welts (edges) in 100% baby alpaca, the grey. I will also be adding a grey edge to the front pocket (right now it looks small, but it will gets the detail added to it. The main color, orangy, is Berroco Comfort (50% super fine nylon / 50% super fine acrylic). Brady picked out the yarn himself about a year ago. I'm so glad to finally be getting it done for him. It is so soft I think he is going to love it.  He loves the pockets and tells me he is going to put tons of stuff in there. I'll be making the hood out of the alpaca yarn. I think it is a nice balance of alpaca yarn. This way it isn't too hot, but you still get the comfort from the alpaca around the edges.
