Ashby Vest

Pockets!

I just finished up a modified pattern. The original pattern is called Ashby by Leila Raabe it was published by Brooklyn Tweed. I chose this pattern to knit along with the Girls in Sheep Clothing.....and a few boys too. I had made an Ashby in the past and this time I thought I'd change it up a bit. I had really wanted to join the KAL, but I also really wanted to make a cardigan. So I modified the components of the shawl and turned them into a vest. I am thrilled how it came out.

The yarn I used is The Fibre Company's Canopy Worsted in the colorway Orchid. I used 4 skeins (each skein is 200 yards). The base of the yarn is 50% baby alpaca, 30% merino, 20% viscose bamboo. I really love this yarn. For the lining of the pockets I used some stash alpaca yarn.

And I also finished (a while a go, but never took pictures).

My Big Ugly Brown Sweater

I wanted to make a sweater I could wear to the farm and get dirty and not be sad about it. Since hand knits cost so much to make.....most of the time..... I wanted an inexpensive sweater I could wear anywhere and not worry about getting ruined. Hence My Big Ugly Brown Sweater.  I made it out of Berroco Vintage Chunky ... a machine washable blend :)  I wear it all the time around the house. The sleeves are even (just in case you were wondering they are just wonky in this picture). It was sooooo cold when I took these pictures, BTW thank you Freddy for taking the pictures!  As for pattern notes there are none at this time. I have modified much prettier versions of this that I will publish in the future. For now this one is a one of a kind.

Yarn Along- Ashby

I am working on my Ashby shawl.  I am using Tess yarn that I purchased at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival.  The yarn is 70% alpaca and 30% silk.  It is amazingly soft.  It is a hand dyed yarn from Maine.  I am really enjoying watch this shawl come together although this is a project you can't take your eye off the chart for.  This is also the first project I ever purchased a pattern for.  I have been knitting for about 14 years.  I am not sure how that is really possible, but it is.

I am using "cables without a cable needle" for the cables.  It is really nice not having to transfer the yarn to a cable needle and I think I have they technique mastered :)

Also I included my yarn bowl that my Grandfather just made for me.  I love it!
