Extreme Weather

There is a photo challenge going on this month and the theme is "Extreme Weather".  I don't really have any extreme weather pictures to use for the challenge.  So on Sunday night I finished work around 10:00 pm.  I was heading to bed when I heard some thunder roll.

Humm I thought maybe I can get some pictures of lightning.  So I went online to check the weather map and it looked like the entire state was engulfed in a red cloud showing lightning was everywhere.

So I set up my tripod inside the house.

Our yard is surrounded by trees so we don't get a good view of the sky from inside the house.  So I wasn't really expecting much from my photo shoot.  Then the lightning started and it only seemed to be in the sky and no visible strikes.

But then...

Lightning!  A few seconds after I took the picture of the above bolt. I released the shutter button again and two of the hugest strikes ever appeared in the sky! They were so bright and seemed to stay in one place for so long.  Unfortunately they were so bright my picture was extremely over exposed :(

But over the next few minutes I did get a few more shots.

This one is pretty blurry, but I decided to share it anyway.

I thought maybe I was lucky to get some pictures of lightning, so I bought a $2 scratch off lottery ticket, but I didn't win.

I have been following several blogs about the fires in Montana. I may be wrong, but I believe the fires started from lightning (please correct me if I am wrong).  Fellow bloggers have joined up and are raising money to help support the families that were effected by the fires.  Please take a moment to visit these blogs to get the whole stories and you will also see where you can offer a donation.

Those are awesome, Andee! Lightning is something I've never attempted to photograph. Of course, you have to have storms first and that's something we've been sorely lacking. Great job with those!

Way to go on capturing the Lightening. I've always wanted too but with a Point and Shoot it's near impossible.
